Paphos
Adonis Lions Club was formed from the English speaking community of Paphos,
Cyprus. As part of an international body of like minded people, Lions Club
International, its aim is to selflessly serve the local community by, amongst
other things, raising money for local charities. To be a Lion is a commitment
but if you are interested in becoming a member, do not hesitate in contacting
us. Alternatively, you can become a Friend of Lions thereby supporting the work
of the Lions without the degree of commitment required of a Lions member. For
further information, contact Lion President Ken Nutter, tel: 97689388 or Lion Membership Allan Morgan, tel: 266222810. Alternatively, you may email on
the link below.
We recently had the pleasure of inducting four new Lions to our club, Lion Peggy Barnes, Lion Ben Crosby, Lion Bryn Heapy and Lion Graeme O'Neil. The Club now consists of 15 members, 6 women and 9 men. We are always willing to welcome more.
What we do
Among the Activities held in the past year, there has been:-
In 2008, the Club presented Atlantic Insurance a plaque to thank them for supporting the Open Golf for the past twelve years. The photograph shows Maria Demetriou, centre, receiving the plaque from Lion President Susan Munns, left, and Lion Treasurer Gordon Woolgar, right.
In September 2008, we held our annual Minigolf Competition. The winner this year was Andrew Rigby with a score of 44. He is second from the left in the photograph which also shows competitors who obtained a "Hole in One" during the competition. Lion President Gordon Woolgar is on the right congratulating the winners.
The Pontypridd Male Voice Choir gave their services free at a concert held at the Markidieon Theatre in Paphos on 8th October 2008. The concert was a sell out and enjoyed by all. Over € 3,600.00 was raised for charity and we must thank the choir for their wonderful voices raised in song.
On 25th February, we held a Beetle Drive at the Latin Parish Hall. Over 70 people had a splendid time. This was a joint venture with the Paphos Cancer Patient Support Group and we must thank Dolly for her help. The door proceeds went directly to the Cancer Patients Support Group and the proceeds of the raffle was augmented from Lion's Funds and presented to the Cancer Patients Support Group on 10th March.
For the Carnival 2009, we repeated our theme of last year - "Save Water - Save Life" with variations. Despite having three blow outs on the wheels of the trailer and running the whole length of the parade on three wheels plus a rim, we managed it.
The cleanest Lion on parade was Lion Secretary Val who spent all the time in the bath.

This treatment is ongoing and we have contributed £1,000 to this appeal. The photograph shows Jamitha and her mother with Lion Teddy and Lion Ruth of Dan Paz-Israel Lions who have been acting as "Uncle & Aunt" to Jasmitha on our behalf during her stay in Israel for treatment.

We also donated two blood pressure measuring machines to the Paphos Cancer Patients Support Group for the use by their nurses.
In November 2008, as a result of the profit from the male voice choir concert, we asked Kivotos what equipment they needed for the children. They requested a physiotherapy table which we purchased and donated to them in February 2009. This photograph shows the fomal handover.
